It’s finally here. The new Ford F-150 Lightning, the only full-size electric pickup truck with a starting price under $40,000, is ready to revolutionize how you work. And already, it’s better than expected.

According to the American automaker, both the standard and extended-range battery packs will deliver more horsepower than originally anticipated. When the truck was announced in May 2021, Ford had said the standard battery pack would produce 426 horsepower while the extended-range pack would produce 563.

Now these numbers have been bumped up to 452 and 580 ponies, respectively. Better yet, both packs can produce up to 775 lb-ft of torque, more than any other Ford F-150, and putting the F-150 Lightning at the forefront of electric towing capability.

Thanks to those increases in power, the F-150 Lightning’s towing capacity has been raised by an additional 2,235 pounds. It can also haul an extra 235 pounds compared to the original target.

“We were seriously focused on raising the bar on this truck, including after we revealed it, so we can deliver more for our customers,” said Dapo Adewusi, F-150 Lightning vehicle engineering manager. “And our drive for continuous improvement will get a big boost when we start getting feedback and ideas from customers when they receive their Lightnings.”
