Top Three Skiing Resorts in Iowa

Top Three Skiing Resorts in Iowa | Spirit Lake, IA

Many people assume that Iowa is a flat state full of miles and miles of corn fields. But, there are more than a few skiing resorts peppering the Hawkeye State. While these resorts might not offer extreme vertical heights of other states’ slopes, they can still give you and your family a lot of fun in the winter.

Mt. Crescent Ski Area

The Mt. Crescent Ski Area is in the mountainous terrain of the Iowa Bluffs about 15 miles northeast of Omaha, Nebraska. This has become a popular place to learn to ski or snowboard. They are open every weekend through the winter and, thanks to their snow machines, there is always a “100 percent chance of snow.” Even if you’d rather not ski or snowboard, you can come here for the great sledding hills.

Seven Oaks

Located in Boone, Seven Oaks is a great place to go in central Iowa if you love skiing. The resort features 11 runs that vary in difficulty. It also offers a trail yard, a beginner’s area, and a terrain park. In addition, the park routinely offers late-night skiing events for the more adventurous skiing fan in your family.

Sundown Mountain

Located near Dubuque, Sundown Mountain is always ready for winter fun. The resort features 21 scenic trails, two terrain parks, and two mountaintop lodges with spectacular views. If you’re looking for an extended ski vacation, Sundown Mountain might just be the perfect destination. Iowa has much to offer for the adventurous skiing fan.  For an outdoorsy SUV you can take your skis and snow clothes in, check out the newest vehicles at one of the Motor Inn Auto stores.
